Adrian Chen loos at a Westboro church member, Megan Phelps-Roper. Phelps-Roper had grown up apart of this church and had been taugh many negativities about homosexuality. Chen says that Phelps-Roper believed that “fighting the increasing tolerance of homosexuality was the key moral issue of our time”. She though that AIDS was acurse from God and that God hated all gays. She began to publicly voice these opinions on twitter after she celbrated the death of Ted Kennedy. Mnay people had problems with her twitter and her opinions. As her twitter grew she was able to learn and see how the opions of the Westboro were wrong. One thing I though was sad is she never asked to have those opions. Yes we all look at her wierd and say what is wrong with her, but that is how she was raised. She didnt have a choice to have differnet opinions. Everyone is so quick to judge her as a person but doesn’t realize she was taugh these beliefs form day one. She was born into that categroy and saw a change for categorization. As she built relationships and realizations through twitter, Phelps-Roper began to realize the very truths she was taught, were wrong. At first she liked to go against people and show the opinions of westboro. As she got more interaction on twitter and saw how people reacted she didn’t want the ideas of Westboro to be seen by everyone. As she learned more and more she realzied how wrong the bible and westboro were. Twitter acted a powerful media tool that chnaged Phelps-Roper’s life.
