Nobody chooses to posses a disability. In “The Dignity of Disabled Lives” by Andrew Solomon, he taks about the social challenges that disabled people face. When it comes to people that have disabilities, there is definetly an unfair challenges that come with it. The biggest one that I can think of and that the article talked about was the staring. Immidietely when we see a disabled person, we stare, and continue to stare. Solomon talks about how even though we are the same, people with disabilities are not seen as equal, “Disabled lives are as valid as nondisabled lives, but they are not the same”. A way that disabled people are able to be recategorized is by media. Using certain platforms and telling their stories, these people can show that their disability doesn’t define them, but who they are as a person does.
